Moving Balloons
14 May 2005
BALTIC, Gateshead - UK

Balloons were moved around a variety of spaces in the Baltic as part of whatchthisspace. In the first instance utilising predetermined sequences of movements (that inevitably broke down due to the inherent physical nature of the balloons and the presence of others within the space); leading to new orders having to be developed on the spot out of the materials at hand. Creating the thankless task of trying to maintain an unnanounced order, as others kick, move and remove the balloons from their correct positions.

As the balloons migrated out of the defined location of the 'event' they began to cause problematic situations in relation to other works, both due simply to phsyical presence and aurally as people began to burst them.
