Off the Wall
August - September 2004
Fold Gallery, Kirkby Stephen - UK
In a response to an offer to explore works that go beyond simply being
on the wall, I made the work:
Re-Drawn, HB
1. To define an area 80 x 65cms on the wall
2. To use a HB pencil (or multiples thereof) to 'fill in' this area
(approx. duration of activity 14 Hours 15 Minutes, dependent on wall
surface)
3. To sand of layer of activity as defined above (and collect dust)
4. To define an area 80 x 65cms on the floor
5. Lay dust collected in process 3 over this defined area
The above stages were enacted live in the space, at various points through
the duration of the exhibition.
The work functions as a series of actions, taking the form of a
'marking out' of specific spaces to undergo rule oriented operations.
This work was further explored at the gallery two years later as part
of the teetotum
project
